In 1972 there was really no way to tell a real 442 from the VIN# or the trim tag. The 442 was strictly an option package in 1972. All 1972 442s started life as a Cutlass Supreme.
The dash and interior look original, but the owner has had the car for 21 years and is not sure of it's past history. He has done a great deal of mechanical work and added some other items. We'll list them as we go through the ad.
There are a few ways to tell if a 72 442 is real. One is that there was no 442 emblem on the glove box. What we probably have here is a matching numbers Cutlass Supreme that is badged as a 442.
The interior is in good condition. It's not perfect, but very presentable. The carpet looks to have been replaced at some point, but the carpet panels on the doors are faded, appearing to be original.

The air conditioning has been completely refurbished. It is now running on 134A and has a new compressor. The unit blows extremely cold.
The dash looks original, and is in very good condition.
There is no sign of rust under the doors.
The 350 cu in V-8 is original to the car. The current owner who has owned the car for 20 years, has done some upgrades to it.
The owner has done a great deal of work to this original 350. Rebuilt 3000 miles ago, he added a Comp 280H cam, switched it to adjustable roller rockers, installed aftermarket headers, added an Edlebrock aluminum intake and carburetor and it now has over 300HP.
There is some rust on the inside and outside of the windshield. The owner insures us he checked the firewall and it does not appear to have spread beyond this area.
There is a small star in the lower corner of the windshield.
The undercarriage is also quite original and looks solid with no signs of major rust.
This is a great driving car. If you are looking for a car to just get in and drive anywhere and aren't concerned about a few cosmetic flaws, then this is a good candidate.
The top is not new and does have it's problems. There is a patch on the driver's side, and a stretchced area on the passenger side.
