Description

Autonomy is a vignette pendant that combines ethical taxidermy, miniature art, and jewelry. It displays the self-determination and power within countercultural communities, juxtaposed with the acceptance of death.
A preserved squirrel paw wears a leatherette cuff studded with acrylic spikes, and a ring made from black anodized copper wire and a silvered clear glass bead. It holds a hand-molded resin skull filled with swirling raspberry mica. It can be worn, or used as an art piece or pendulum.
Autonomy measures 1" tall, 1.5" deep, and .5" wide. It is capped with a silver alloy petal bail and finished with an alloy ring for ease of use.
The taxidermy used in this piece is the left front paw of Delano, an Eastern Grey Squirrel (Sciurus Carolinensis). Delano is an ethical specimen. He came to us after a circumstantial death and was saved from the landfill. His paw has been treated with natural disinfectant and repellant solutions, and dried without heat. His internal anatomy is intact. He is clean, pest-resistant, and will last for decades if kept dry and handled respectfully.
