    Description

René Lalique designed his "Orléans" (A French city south of Paris) vase in 1930, a clean expanding opalescent vasque decorated at the top by a wide garland of flowers and foliage. It is not a very well known vase because it is not seen often. In fact, it was produced only between 1930 and 1932. It comes here with a blue patina (w
    hich has held very well)
on the top friese, about 1/3 of the height.
The motif is one of thick bushy flowers and their foliage. Because of its shape , the vase is wider at the top (9") than it is tall (8"). The weight is just over 4 Lbs.
"Orléans" is photographed and described (photo 8) in Felix Marcilhac's large book (the unofficial Lalique "Bible"), on page 448 of the 2010 French printing under reference 1046 but the book has a publishing error: While "Orléans" is the vase on the RIGHT of photo 9, the correct text is under the photo on the LEFT. Photos and captions have been inverted The correct caption (on the left) clarifies that it was made only until 1932 (it was removed from the October 1932 catalogue) and never re-introduced later.
The signature R LALIQUE FRANCE (photo 7) is stenciled under the base in block letters.
The presentation is excellent as the blue patina works very well on the opalescent body. The condition is good but not perfect: There has been a narrow chip on the rim, which has been repaired but remains visible, more as a lighter-colored rough spot than a break. There is no loss of height.
The vase has been discounted to account for it and is sold "As Is". Since the presentation is excellent as the blue patina works very well on the opalescent body,
here is therefore a good opportunity to acquire a  rare and majestic vase for an affordable price.
